Claudette Laird Smith

Claudette Laird Smith 81, of Gaston, SC, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Funeral services will be held at at 3:00 PM Friday, September 23, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Gaston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born in Swansea, SC on October 14, 1940, a daughter of the late Thomas and Lorene Laird. She was married to the late Stuart “Milton” Smith for forty-nine years. Mrs. Smith was a devoted wife who cared for her husband for many years. She was also a loving grandmother “Granny Buck” who adored her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Her favorite vacations were in the Great Smoky Mountains with her husband and family. She enjoyed working in her yard and putting up Christmas lights for her grandchildren to enjoy.She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaston. Survivors include her daughter, Donna (Danny) Estep; a son, Ronald (Sissy) Smith all of Gaston; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Barfield, Matt (Eden) Barfield, Stuart (Gracie) Smith and Brent (Kaycie) Smith; great-grandchildren, Hayley and Colton Barfield, Ethan and Sarah Smith, Josie and Mila Barfield and Dodge and Addalynn Smith; sisters, Pearl Spires and Patsy Norris. She was predeceased by her brothers, Marvin (Effie) Laird and Irby Laird; and sisters, Lois Furtick and Linda Laird. The family would like to extend a special thanks to their Agape Hospice Care Team, SC House Calls and the special caregivers. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Barfield, Matthew Barfield, Stuart Smith, Brent Smith, Lee Goodwin and Justin Hutto. Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Barfield and Ethan Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Gaston. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North.
