Frank Venson “Vent” Mack, 97, of Gason passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, October 10, 2025. Born March 19, 1928 to the late Jackson J. & Annie Sturkie Mack. Vent was the youngest of 13 children. He is predeceased by siblings Ehrman Mack, Detril Mack and Dovie Jeffcoat along with half siblings Newland Mack, Maude Mack Pound, Willie Clark Mack, Robbie Mack, Minnie Louzell Mack Pound, Claude Cecil Mack, Gifford Mack, Jessie Caroline Mack Staley, Nissie Lee Mack Sightler.
Vent graduated from Swansea High School, class of 1945 and immediately enlisted in the US Navy where he was stationed in Portsmouth, VA during WWII. He then enlisted in the US Navy Reserves, and was later called back into the Navy during the Korean War, where he was again stationed in Portsmouth, VA. After his service in the Navy, he went to work at the Savannah River Site where he retired after 31 ½ years of service as an electrician.
While serving in the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, the late Doris Taylor Mack. They lived a full and wonderful life until her death. They had 4 children, Jackson J (Sharon) Mack, the late Frank V Mack, Jr (Debbie), the late Brenda (Bucky) Neese and the late Marianne (Randy) Rogers. They also share 9 grandchildren Laura Kay (Rob) Phillips, Lesleigh (James) Edwards, Jason (Christine) Mack, Melissa (Jim) Barr, Heather Schoolcraft, Sandra (Johnny) Leader, Annie (Richard) Wich, A.J. Mack & the late Lonnie Neese III. He has 14 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
He would tell you that he was a very lucky man and managed to marry the second great love of his life, Betty Jean Bozard Mack. The two of them brought two families together, adding Sons Jim (Cindi) Jackson & William Keadle, whom he loved as his own. Grandchildren Erin (Chad) Tackett, Jacob Jackson and 2 great grandchildren. Vent & Betty shared an amazing life full of family gatherings, travel and many laughs together until her death.
Vent was an active member for many years of the Shriners Temple helping raise money for the Shriners Children’s Hospital as a part of the Tom Cats. He was also a member of the Gaston Masonic Lodge #382 since 1954 and was the oldest surviving member at First Baptist Church of Gaston.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Gaston, 121 Oakey Springs Dr, Gaston, SC 29053 at 2pm on Friday, October 17, 2025. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service, from 1pm – 2pm. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Gaston Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
