Fred Junius Metz, Sr.

Fred Junius Metz, Sr., 85, of Gaston, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 6, 2026 at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, 4624 Highway 321, Gaston, SC 29053. Pastor Luke Beasley will officiate the service.

Mr. Metz was born in Columbia, SC, a son of the late Clarence Junius "Man" Metz and Kathleen Gates Metz. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Boykin Masonic Lodge and South Edisto Hunt Club. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy. Fred was a dedicated Christian man and the best father in the world. He was married to the late Barbara Spradley Metz and Iren Compton Metz.

Survivors include his son, Fred Metz, Jr.; a daughter, Charissa (Woody) Geddings; brothers, Ernest (Georgie) Metz and Don (Guy) Metz; sister, Melba (Alex) Metts; one grandson, Cale Metz; one great grandson, Easton Metz; two step-daughters, Penny (Ed) Mayall and Cassandra (Mac) Gunby; and three step-grandchildren, Jessica, Sunny and Ike. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Rex Metz and John Metz; and a sister, Miriam Bachman.

Pallbearers will be Fred Metz, Jr., Cale Metz, Pete Gunter, Woody Gedding, Isaac Mayall and Austin Gunter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 1959 Woodtrail Drive, Gaston, SC 29053.
