Hattie King Sturkie

Hattie K. Sturkie, 101, of Swansea, passed away on Friday September 4, 2026, at Lexington Medical Center.

She was born February 19,1925 in Columbia to David and Harriet Arthur King.

Hattie was a lifelong member of Swansea United Methodist Church. She had a big personality and was known for being in charge. A talented woman, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sewing. Above all, she loved her family fiercely and treasured the time she spent with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Donald Ray Kizer Sr., and her husband, Richard Wallace Sturkie to whom she was married from 1946 until his passing in 2012.

Hattie is survived by her two daughters, Harriet Kyzer, Mary Wallace Gregory (Vernon); four grandchildren, Harriet Lorick (Greg), Donald Ray Kyzer Jr., Mary Lee Gregory, and Richard Gregory (India); four great-grandchildren, Carson Kyzer, Haven Kyzer, Dray Lorick, Pearl Gregory and her beloved dog, Fancy.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, in the chapel of Culler-McAlhaney Funeral Home.
