Jackie Fogle Smith

Jackie Fogle Smith, 88, of Bamberg, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8,2026, leaving behind a deep legacy of faith and love.

Born on December 16, 1937, in Neeses, South Carolina, Jackie was the fifth daughter in her family and grew up alongside her sisters and younger brother in a close-knit home that shaped her lifelong devotion to family and community.

She graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College in 1957, where she was a proud member of the basketball team. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Robert Smith. Together they shared a devoted marriage of 63 years until his passing in 2023.

Faith was the cornerstone of Jackie’s life. A devoted member of Bamberg First Baptist Church, Jackie served faithfully as church organist for almost 40 years. She was deeply involved in church life through Women’s Missionary Union, Vacation Bible School, and the music ministry, sharing her gifts in ways that touched generations.

Music was one of Jackie’s greatest passions. She was an active member of the Apollo Music Club, sang with the Bamberg Chorale, and taught piano to countless students over the years. Her love of learning never faded; in her seventies, she began taking violin lessons, embracing new challenges with enthusiasm and determination.

Jackie also found joy in gardening. As a Master Gardener and active member of the Dirt Dabblers Garden Club, she delighted in nurturing beauty and growth wherever she could. Her gardens reflected the same patience, care, and attention she gave to the people she loved.

Above all, Jackie was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, and friend whose steady presence and generous spirit enriched the lives of all who knew her. She was especially cherished as “Gran”, a title she wore with great pride and joy.

Jackie is survived by her children, Dawn Smith Broadwell (Myron), Robert Smith (Theresa), Kyle Smith (Traci), Matthew Smith (Catherine), and Allison Smith Farnell (Edwin), as well as 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The Smith family extends sincere gratitude to the caregivers of The Claiborne at West Lake and Bristol Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Jackie during her final days.

A memorial service will be held at Bamberg First Baptist church on Sunday, June 14th, at 2:30 p.m. A private burial will immediately follow in Springfield, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Bamberg First Baptist Church Music Ministry in honor of Jackie’s many years of faithful service and enduring legacy as the church organist.
