Nancy Lea Miller

Nancy Lea Miller, 82, of Swansea, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

Mrs. Miller was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., daughter of the late Robert William and Elizabeth Ann LaPlante Cane. Survived by: her husband, Calvin H. Miller; a son, Lance Robert (Chantelle) Johnson; and a daughter, Lori Ann (Douglas) Buckley, her cousin, Bonnie Wood and best friends, Paul and Laurie Marshall. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Robert W. Cane, Jr. and Spencer Cane and her sister, Judy Cane.

Nancy served for many years in the Human Service field. She was a dedicated advocate for the majority of her adult life where she took great pride in her work as a contributor to her community. Nancy retired from NY State Vocational Rehabilitation and shortly after moved to South Carolina.

Nancy was well known for her love and respect of horses, which was instilled in her at a very young age by her father who also nurtured and shared his/her sense of humor. This is why she was also known for her beautiful smile accompanied by her laughter. Nancy was active in 4H with the Adirondack Rancheros. She was an excellent horse trainer, active in parades with a horse drawn carriage and even started barrel racing after she met the love of her life, her Cowboy, Calvin. She was the proud winner of The State Finals Senior Division for the South Carolina National Barrel Horse Association Championship at the age of 70. She was also a member of the Christ Central’s Women’s Quilters and participated in making beautiful quilts with traditional techniques.

A memorial service presided over by Pastor Jimmy Jones will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home 4541 Savannah Hwy North, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service, Tuesday 12:00 P.M. Noon, at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home.
