Roger Rucker, 85, of Swansea, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Mr. Rucker was born on July 23, 1939 in Swansea, SC, the only son of the late Vandy and Willie Mae Rucker.
Roger was a graduate of Swansea High School, then the University of South Carolina. After graduation, he became a pilot for the US Air Force. He was stationed in Anglesey Wales, UK, Dover Delaware and Sumter South Carolina among other places throughout his 26.5-year career.
Once retired from the Air Force, Roger had a second career as a JROTC instructor at Lexington High School and the in-school suspension director at White Knoll High School.
After retiring from the school district, he settled in Lexington South Carolina, where he and his wife Delores spent their time volunteering for numerous veterans organizations as well as local churches, especially Oak Grove in Swansea/Sandy Run.
He and Delores were honored in 2018 by both the South Carolina State Senate and the House of Representatives with resolutions to honor and commend them for their tireless efforts to support veterans and our active duty military in our nations armed forces.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Delores Rucker; his only child, Kallea and her husband Chris Cagle; and his three grandchildren, Garrett, Alexandra and Samantha Cagle.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
