Russell Hampton Ott

Russell Hampton Ott, 56, passed away on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at his home in Charlotte, N.C.

Russell was born on Aug. 13,1969, in Charlotte to the late Hampton and Gladys Ott.

Russ attended East Carolina University and graduated from the Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) Nursing Program. A Registered Nurse at CMC Main hospital in Charlotte for many years, his coworkers described him as a great caregiver, kind nurse and friend to everyone.

Russ was an avid Clemson University football fan but loved his family and friends even more. He also was a longtime member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. Most importantly, he was the primary caregiver for his aging parents, allowing them to remain in their home.

He is survived by his sister, Ann Gaston, niece Savannah Shelton (Will), great-nephew Ezra Shelton and many cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church, Highway 6, St. Matthews, S.C. Dress will be comfortably casual and may include any Clemson gear/orange and purple attire in Russ’ honor.

Friends and family also are invited to a drop-in celebration in honor of Russ’ birthday on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Hickory Tavern, 11504 Providence Road, Charlotte.
